Book Reviews

After you read a book all the way through you can post a book review. The book review should include a short summary of the book, like you would see on the back cover, and it should tell the audience whether or not you like the book.
This should help your classmates decide to read or not to read the book you write about!

One thing I learned this week...

This is a place where you can reflect about what you learned during this week of school We have been learning a lot of cool things and you can share them with the world! :)

Multiplication Properties

Today in Math class we learned about these properties of multiplication.

1. Identity Property- Anything times 1 equals the same amount.
1 x 7= 7

2. Zero Property - Anything time 0 equals nothing.
0 x 7= 0

3. Commutative Property- In multiplication, numbers can switch places and the product
will be the same.

3 x 4 = 4 x 3

4. Associative Property- In multiplication, numbers can be associated with different numbers
and still result in the same product

(3 x 5) x 2= 3 x (5 x 2)

Poetry

I thought it would be fun if we could use our blog to publish the poetry that we wrote last week. The poetry that you publish does not have to be from last week, but I know you were all writing some fabulous things!

Recipe

Dear Class,

I found this great cookie recipe. Since I have a big family, I need to make more then one batch of cookies. Explain how to double this recipe, then show me what the measurements will be.

Thanks,
Ms. Marler
Ingredients
  • 3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup oil
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole-wheat pastry flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon fine salt
  • 6 ounces semisweet chocolate chips or chunks
  • 4 ounces dried cranberries or dried cherries

Directions

Evenly position 2 racks in the middle of the oven and preheat to 375 degrees F. Line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone sheets. (If you only have 1 baking sheet, let it cool completely between batches.)

Whisk the sugars, eggs, oil, and vanilla in a large bowl until smooth.

Whisk the flours, baking soda, and salt in another bowl. Stir the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients with a wooden spoon; take care not to overmix. Stir in the chocolate chips or chunks and dried fruit.

Scoop heaping tablespoons of the dough onto the prepared pans. Wet hands slightly and roll the dough into balls. Space the cookies about 2 inches apart on the pans. Bake until golden but still soft in the center, about 12 to 14 minutes, depending on how chewy or crunchy you like your cookies. Transfer hot cookies with a spatula to a rack to cool. Serve.

Store cookies in a tightly sealed container for up to 3 days.
